By another hand. Doctor Mayhew was a great divine, an
excellent preacher, and one of the greatest polemical
writers this or any other country has seen. . . [24 lines]
  Ah Mayhew! art thou then for ever gone?
  No. I've oft seen the greatly falling sun
  Leave the blue arch, and threaten endless night:
  Yet rise again, and bless a world with light.
  Thus in thy works shalt thou revealing shine,
  And prove the hand that form'd them was divine;
  'Till that great day when night shall be no more,
  And tyrants cease to persecute the poor:
  When none shall dread the bigots scourging rods
  But ev'ry upright heart rejoice in God.
